Talking about reinventing the wheel? US tire company Goodyear has built a prototype of a tire that can charge the batteries of electric cars. The charging tire generates electricity both while in motion and when parked. The tire is designed to absorb sunlight that’s converted into electricity that charges the battery. The tire also has a special heat absorbing tread that picks up the heat “when the rubber hits the road.” The heat is subsequently cleverly converted into electricity as well. “The visionary tire technology could eliminate the vehicle-range anxiety motorists may have with electric cars,” Goodyear says.
