Women are the biggest customers of the health care industry— in part to their need for reproductive care—and they make 80 percent of the health care decisions for families. However, the health care industry is largely run by men. Tired of having their conditions misunderstood or dismissed as “bikini medicine,” women are starting up and investing in female-focused companies. Nine digital-health companies focused on women raised $82 million through the third quarter of last year, up from $29 million in 2014.
