Bad news and good news at the same time. First the European Union failed to come to a final agreement and decided to extend the license for the use of the herbicide glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, for 18 months. But then Segolene Royal, the French Minister for Ecology, announced that France remains “determined to ban the use of glyphosate in France by January 1, 2018.” Studies conducted by the World Health Organization “found that the herbicide solution was probably carcinogenic to humans”, because it provokes inflammation in the body. Glyphosate is also linked to the increasing disappearance of honeybee populations.
