America’s public has the facts on crime are all wrong. When polled, 69 percent of U.S voters said they thought crime in their country was higher now than it was two decades ago, which is false. In fact, the FBI states violent crime has nearly halved since 1996 and robbery has dropped 50 percent. This false perception of crime is terrible for the country as public outcries against violence shape public policy in unneeded ways, only fueling the U.S prison system further. Don’t let this misinterpretation of the facts mislead you in any way.
