Hemp is not the same as marijuana. And that confusion stands in the way of much progress towards more sustainability.  Hemp is the industrial strain of Cannabis Sativa. It grows very easily without the need for chemical fertilizers or pesticides and has been used for many purposes—food, fuel and textiles—for tens of thousands of years until in recent decades; industrial hemp suffered from wrongful opposition in the war on drugs. You would need to smoke a cigarette the size of a street lamp post to get high from hemp. Here’s a great overview of the extraordinary qualities and opportunities of hemp.
