According to the National institute of Justice, having a criminal record cuts a job applicant’s chance of getting called back nearly in half. And if a company needs to make job cuts, people with criminal backgrounds are usually the first ones who lose their jobs. It’s an unstable situation, which is why a food company in Pennsylvania has been hiring ex-offenders that need help getting back on their feet. Lancaster Food Company, a 100 percent organic food supplier, looks for formerly incarcerated people who are having trouble finding jobs. So far, no one has quit since being hired.
