Since people tend to lie to doctors about their food intake even when they’re on prescribed diet plans, scientists have developed a urine test that can independently measure the health of a person’s diet in just five minutes. The test measures the biological markers in urine created when foods such as red meat, chicken, fish, fruit and vegetables are broken down as they travel through the body, and provides an indication of a person’s intake of fat, sugar, fiber, and protein. With such a test, doctors can avoid the inaccuracies that come when people self-report what they’ve been eating in order to create a diet plan that caters to the exact needs of each patient.
