For someone with advanced Lou Gehrig’s disease or severe paralysis, a motorized wheelchair can be very hard to use. That’s why engineers have put together a self-driving wheelchair to help people with severe disabilities get around. The wheelchair isn’t exactly self-driving because the people who use them still have control, but this wheelchair is equipped with sensors that make sure it avoids bumping into anything. If the wheelchair can be commercialized, it could potentially give someone the ability to go to a job by themselves, or do daily tasks that would have required a caregiver in the past.
